Glenda Kay Turner Heaner passed away on May 10, 2018, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Brownsville, Tx.  She was born on March 10, 1944 in Grand Junction, CO, to Harold Pierson and Kathryn Houghton Pierson and grew up in Donna, Tx.  After a career in the travel industry and marrying John (Marty) Heaner in 1967, she formed her own decorating company and joined her husband in the family construction business in Brownsville as a licensed Interior Designer.  They worked together for 25 years.

She gave back to her community through chairing Brownsville Jr. Service League clinics, teaching swimming through the Adapted Aquatics program, supporting education for women scholorships through P.E.O., and serving on The Episcopal Day School Board. She was an active member of The Church of the Advent, serving as Senior Warden on the Vestry and Directress of the Altar Guild, facilitator for the Cursillo and Alpha movements, and faithful prayer partner with Daughters of the King.

Glenda was preceded in death by her mother Kathryn Houghton Pierson Turner Allphin, adopted father, Robert B. Turner, maternal grandparents, Genevieve Sanborn Houghton and Ralph Houghton, and Uncle Lawrence Wayne Houghton.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John M. Heaner (Marty); son John M. Heaner, Jr. (Marty, Jr.), his wife Anne and son, John M. Heaner, III (Jack) of San Antonio; son Michael Lewis Heaner and his partner David Michaud of Califon, New Jersey.  She is also survived by her cousin Marykay Edwards (Bill) and Aunt Iris Houghton of Bryan-College Station; nephew David Gene Turner of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law Anne Glenn, her daughter Maria Uecker and family in Corpus Christi, her girlfriends from Donna and Brownsville, and P.E.O. sisters with whom she joyfully shared many lunches, birthdays and lifetime event over the years.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Irma Castillo for her love and wonderful care, along with Cristela Yepra, Martha Ingle, and Brissa Rubio.  Glenda’s family also has been profoundly moved by the kindnesses shown to her and us during her illness.  Our gratitude knows no bounds.
