Evelina Welsh

Evelina Welsh, 83, on the morning of August 4, 2016 passed away of natural causes at her home in Brownsville, where she was visited and comforted by family members.

Evelina Welsh was born in Brownsville, the daughter of Mr. Enrique F. Valentin, owner of Valentin's Department Store and Buena Vista Cemetery.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from California State University and her Masters from the University of Texas at Brownsville.  She was a retired educator from the Brownsville Independent School district.  She was passionate about teaching children; that passion was evident in the success of her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Roberto A. Welsh, who owned Roberto Welsh Insurance Agency in Brownsville for 18 years.

She is survived by her children, Roberto E. (Gilma) Welsh; Smith E. (Claudia) Welsh; Evelina H. (Manuel) Gutierrez; and Thelma E. Welsh (Aly Besteiro).  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A small gathering for the immediate family is planned.
