Juanita Garcia, 85, went to be with her Lord on April 6, 2018. She was born on February 18, 1933, in Brownsville, Texas, to Celedonio and Antonia (Adame) Garcia. She attended Brownsville public schools, graduating from Brownsville High School in 1952. She attended the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and graduated in 1956.
She was employed by the Brownsville Independent School District from 1956 until her retirement in 2003. She started her teaching career at El Jardin Elementary, but her longest term of service was at Faulk Junior High, where she was in charge of In School Suspension. Her final years of service were at Besteiro Middle School, where she was Dean of Discipline. She was known to be very tough, but fair and caring. She was also on the board of the Brownsville Teachers Credit Union for fifteen years.
In both her professional and private life she was characterized by a giving nature and lively personality. She had many friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Celedonio and Antonia Garcia. She is survived by her sisters, Maria Ericson and Concepcion Garcia, and a nephew, James Ericson.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Delta Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Immaculate Conception. Followed by burial at Buena Vista.
