Maria de Lourdes Medina

Maria de Lourdes Medina, 84, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center- Harlingen, in the comfort of her family at her bedside on May 19, 2022.

Lourdes was a graduate of Villa Maria Catholic High School, and studied at Texas Southmost College.  Lourdes retired from the Brownsville Independent School District as a Paraprofessional; her love of children was exemplified with this job.  Her love of wood work led her to obtain her Carpentry License and Certification.

Lourdes, was a strong woman of faith, a catechist, and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church.  One of her most cherished accomplishments was forming the Sacred Heart of Jesus Group, she valued her bond with the Lord and her fellow members.  She loved her church activities especially working at the “Kermes” with her children and grandchildren.  Another of her most treasured accomplishments was initiating the traditional Christmas Posadas and working with her Comadre, Mrs Segura, assembling Thanksgiving Food Baskets for the community.   She was a Board Member of the Good Neighbor Settlement House working towards education, health and welfare for the community.  Her loving spirit and selflessness has been a positive influence to many, and she will be truly missed.

Lourdes is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Jose Medina, Jr, her daughters, Elizabeth and Jessica Medina, her grandparents, Lorenzo and Elena Sierra, her parents, Gaspar and Rosa DeLeon, and numerous brothers, sisters and nephews.

Lourdes is survived by her children, Jose (Connie), Elena Medina Cano (Carlos), Ricardo (Hilda), Gustavo, Lourdes Medina Pena (Rene), Guillermo (Yolanda), and Marco Antonio (Brook), 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 1:00pm to 8:00pm with the rosary to be prayed at 7:00pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 11:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church. At Lourdes's request cremation will follow. Private burial of cremains will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation may be given to Holy Family Catholic Church.
