Ubaldo C. "Chico" Arizmendi, 94, passed away on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at his residence.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Manuela Cantu Arizmendi; his son, Ubaldo J. Arizmendi; his brothers, Abelardo, Alonzo, Raul, and Alejandro; and his sisters, Santos, Ameli, and Frances.
He served with the US Army HQT and HQT Battery 30th Field Artillery group. He fought against the Japanese in Alaska and Germans in Europe. Upon his return to his hometown, Ubaldo began working for Brown & Root as a painter/ sandblaster. He worked there for 28 years before retiring. He was a member of the Brownsville Nite Lions. He loved fishing and hunting. He always had jokes to tell with the purpose of making someone smile and brighten their day.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Guadalupe C. Lupita Coronado Arizmendi; his children, Helen (Walter) Mebane, Belinda "Bell" Arizmendi, Ed (Anke), and Arturo (Helen); and his grandchildren, Dr. Leslie (Dave) McClain, David Mebane, Paul (Shealynne), Ashley, Ariel, Alisa, Julio and Andres; and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Delta Chapel. At the family's request cremation will follow.
